The recommended way to get to Almeria is by flying or driving from Madrid or Barcelona. Getting there by train is strongly discouraged as there is no high speed train.
For people flying from the east coast, there is a direct flight from Newark to Malaga during summer time. From Malaga there is only a 2 -hour car ride to get to Almeria.
For people that require a Visa for going into Europe, please start the process ASAP, as the Spain consulate in San Francisco may be slow processing it. Some people have been able to do it through an external company (BLS), but please check the rules for your particular case.
Important The EU is requiring that people without European passports get a travel authorization (ETIAS) before traveling.
Almeria is a very walkable city. You can get to bars, museums, the promenade, and the beach by walking a few minutes. Taxis are also not that expensive if it's get too hot. Unfortunately, Uber is not an option.
If you plan to explore around the province we recommend renting a car, as inter-city public transport is limited to 1 or 2 daily buses. As for what places to explore, we suggest taking a look at the Natural Park Cabo de Gata, or beach towns like Mojacar, Vera, or Carboneras.
If you want to explore a bit further, we recommend considering a one or two-day trip to Granada. It's a 2-hour train ride away and it's a beautiful town full of history.
For more in-depth information about what to do and visit please take a look at the Thing To Do section. We have included Google Maps links with a ton of recommendations bookmarked at the bottom of that section.
We will provide buses to get to and from the wedding. Buses will stop in Paseo de Almeria.
We will update the precise location for the bus stop on this section once we get closer to the date of the wedding.
If you prefer staying closer to the beach but still in walking distance from the downtown we recommend renting an apartment in the Zapillo area through AirBnB, Booking.com, or Expedia.
If you prefer a smaller beach town right in the middle of the protected Natural Park (Cabo de Gata) we recommend renting an apartment in Mojacar, Vera, Carboneras, Garrucha, and Las Negras.
(Note: renting a car is highly recommended)
